Who Are You?

Hi, welcome! Truly giddy you’re here, just can’t tell you that enough. I’m Danya Issawi, I’m a writer at New York Magazine and The Cut where I am officially a fashion writer, but unofficially write about a cacophony of topics and people including, but not limited to: Oysters! Ice Spice! Keke Palmer! Chloe Sevigny’s closet sale! Trying out to be a ball kid at the U.S. Open!

What’s Mish Mashy?

I started Mish Mashy in hopes of forging a watering hole of sorts for people looking for nuanced cultural exploration, commentary and introspection. It’s an amalgamation (i.e., a mish mash) of often fleeting thoughts and observations on how we move through the world as people, fleshed out into longer-form essays and conversations. In Arabic, mish mashy (مش ماشي) translates to “not okay,” something I, this world and many of us along with it, are often not. Let’s look at what that feels like, what that looks like, together. This newsletter’s divine birthright is to live a life of service to her readers, a life that is transparent, curious, skeptical and, maybe, humorous.

Where Will We Meet?

Don’t worry, I’ll come to you. Every new post is sent directly to your email inbox.
